    Background and political history

    Former disability-services manager and Newcastle Councillor, Sharon Claydon entered Parliament in 2013. She is the first woman to hold the seat and now serves as Deputy Speaker. Claydon co-chairs the Parliamentary Friends of LGBTIQ+ Australians and leads inquiries on violent online extremism.
