Background and political history
Marion Scrymgour is a Tiwi Islander and the first Indigenous woman elected to the NT Legislative Assembly (2001-2012), where she rose to Deputy Chief Minister and Attorney-General. After leading the Tiwi Islands Regional Council, the Wurli Wurlinjang Aboriginal Corporation and serving as CEO of the Northern Land Council, Scrymgour succeeded Warren Snowdon at the 2022 federal election, becoming only the second member for the vast seat of Lingiari. She brings two decades of frontline health and community-development experience to Parliament and is a strong advocate for Closing-the-Gap targets, remote housing, and a constitutionally-enshrined First Nations Voice.
